Children are removed from their homes and placed in foster care due to abuse, neglect, or abandonment. The compounding traumas of this experience, the removal itself, multiple placement changes, and a system that too often lets children slip through the cracks, often leads to other issues down the road: homelessness, poverty, incarceration, and human trafficking, to name a few.
KCMO Angels is the local chapter of the national nonprofit organization, National Angels, which works to ensure every child in foster care feels a deep sense of belonging, every youth reaches their fullest potential and achieves their dreams, and every fostering family feels supported along their journey. Our programs match foster families and youth with committed volunteers from their zip code, who meet with them regularly to provide financial and emotional support and/or one-on-one mentorship. We also help our foster care community celebrate birthdays and adoptions, and provide access to resources like back-to-school supplies and Christmas gifts.
